The movie’s story is set two years after the events of the Fullmetal Alchemist TV series’s last episode. Dragged from his homeworld of Amestris to this world, Earth, Edward Elric lives in Munich, Germany, in the year 1923. Stripped of his alchemical powers and some of his limbs, but not the attachments for his automail (from his previous journey through the Gate), he has spent all this time researching rocketry together with Alfons Heiderich, a young man who resembles his own brother.
Our Earth is a parallel world to Amestris, and as a result Edward encounters many people whose faces are familiar to him. After rescuing and taking in Noa, a troubled gypsy woman, Edward is thrown in a series of events that opens him a path to return to his homeworld, and a conspiracy that can bring serious consequences to both worlds.

Well, good movie, not a lot of closer though. Left open for another, even though it’s not coming. Well, FMA had a hell of a run. Not a bad way to end it.

I wanted Ed and Al to be in their own world with their friends and alchemy. It fit so much better. Why oh why do people have to mess with the endings. The series hasn’t even ended yet in the manga.

Good Movie! It was sad though. I think that they’ve opened a door to start another story, and hopefully this time a bit more up beat instead of being so “war themed”, I’d be surprised if they didn’t make at least one more movie. And hey you never know!

Yeah. The movie would have been way better if they had someone else destroy the gate from the other side. Then they could just stay with their friends. I mean, gosh like the movie changed the whole show! There was no point in becoming a State Alchemist if he would just leave and go to a world where alchemy doesn’t exist!!

Subbed is way better then Dubbed, I like the English voices, its better to have Jap voices sometimes and on some animes, but this is just not one of those. This is one were the English voices actually sound like they were meant for the character.

I agree with Zeal. I liked the English version better because in the dub, Ed doesn’t sound like a girl and Al doesn’t sound like a little kid. In the sub, everyone else’s voice was good except for the Elric brothers. I’m sorry but Ed and Al’s original voices are godawful. BTW, the movie was good, and it ended the series on a good note.

This movie was good but not the happy ending i was lookin for, they should have kept the gates opened and made it a sort of airport between worlds, or at least made it possible to keep all the friends and family together in one world, don’t really care which world as long as they were together.

Plus this movie had nothing to do with bringing ther mother back; and seeing ther father die was just adding to the sadness of the show. I just wish every anime could be like DBZ and have all characters go somewhere else when they die, not just die.

i agree both portals didnt have to be destroed. only one, if it was me i would never leave the workd of alchemy. They should have stayed and destroyed the gate on there side.

that was terrible. im happy Ed and Al were reunited, but, seriously, that killed it. WHO THE HELL MAKES A GREAT SERIES LIKE FMA AND ENDS IT AT 51 EPISODES AND A CRAPPY MOVIE??? they should have gone back home… besides it made no sense to go back to destroy the transmutation circle. there is no one on that side who even knows alchemy, so they could never use the circle again anyway.

Winry’s ther cuzin idiot(2nd person above) and i loved the cept i do wish al and ed stayed in ther own world. cuz the title is full metal ALCHEMIST, read it again alchemist. Al that wannabe he looked just like ed. that end the Elric family on that side of the gate. I liked the movie it had a very well thought out plot but the ending wasn’t the greatest. It was cool that Ed and Al got to stay together but the movie should have ended with them staying in their world. Now not only does Winry not have Ed but she doesn’t have Al either.

the movie was awesome!!! maybe not the ending everyone was looking for.. but anyway, i was a great ending.. just because they didn’t kept on their side of the gate doesn’t mean it was a bad movie.. i liked it very much, regardless the ending.. i thing it just fit the whole series and movie.. anyway, i’m going to start reading the manga, if it was a great anime, the manga should be way better! ^_^

Contradiction all the way though. Its so annoying because you hoped for a happy ending, but all you got was death and despair. How many people died due the gate being opened! And at the end to levee his world and go to the new one to close the gate when that was the last thing he wanted. I’m very annoyed. How selfish were they!

man.. everyone on here keeps whining about the ending to this movie.. in my opinion it was good, i also would have like to have seen them all with happy faces together again but the world isn’t like that and i think thats what the makers were trying to say.. Ed had to go back and seal the gate for good, you saw the destruction caused by one crazy bitch, what if another came along a hundred years down the line? In any case the end of the movie has a lot of hope in it, Ed and Al are back together again like they always wanted and they’re both ready to start helping the world on out side, thats a good thing.

I liked the movie anyway. It was nice just to see/hear the characters again.

WTF?Man that’s a really crappy ending for an extraordinary anime series like FMA.He spent all that time on the other trying to go back to Al and in the end….wait..suddenly…at the last moment he decides to go back to the world where you can’t use ALCHEMY and close the gate just for the sake of the two worlds and that there are more important things than they’re dreams????That soo killed it…seriously now….I think that this anime’s ending was too close to the unpleasant reality….sometimes I do think happy endings have their place…
